About this release

wave to earth returns with their second full-length album [bad pieces]. The "All Self-made" band, which has directly handled everything from recording, mixing, and mastering to artwork and visual direction, takes a quiet but distinct step away from the sound that made them known to the world in this album, released three years after the EP [play with earth! 0.03]. Kim Daniel, wave to earth's vocalist/guitarist, describes this music as "closer to wave to earth's essence than ever before." The voices of the three members were evenly infused in the songwriting process more than ever, and this change is called not a decision but a place where a band will eventually arrive. [bad pieces] began with John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 'Bed Peace' in 1969. An album set up with a single bed as a hideout on a messy earth. It starts not with comfort given from above, but with the confession, "We too are clumsy and flawed pieces." It neither tries to teach nor to heal. It simply says that just by being by your side, you can create your own sanctuary. The sound perfectly reflects this attitude. The band delved into past masterpieces for a long time and picked up vintage instruments: a nylon guitar, a Mini Moog bass, and a CP70 piano that anchors the song's center of gravity. Built on minimalism, this album is wave to earth's next chapter, moving a step away from the lo-fi jazz that was the band's identity. The pre-release single 'heaven and hell' opens the door first. It's a song about a world that cannot be divided into two, and a song that asks how to live now rather than seeking answers. The three members, approaching thirty, say, "We want to live without losing the innocence of a child even as we get older." 'courage' leans towards the sensibility of Lennon/McCartney, and 'hyang' warmly depicts the moment when someone who believed they knew love encounters true love. All tracks ultimately converge into one sentence: "We will be here. You can come as you are. Courage will find you." wave to earth, who have continued unprecedented global headline tours for a Korean indie band, performed on over 100 stages worldwide from 2024 to 2025 and concluded a period by selling out three days of concerts at Seoul Olympic Hall in February 2026. And this new sound will first meet audiences in September during 'the pieces tour,' connecting 29 cities in North America and Asia, including New York's Radio City Music Hall and Los Angeles's Greek Theatre. On the biggest stages in the band's history, with their most stripped-down music. [bad pieces] is wave to earth's record of questioning themselves again and an album quietly placed beside those who listen to those questions.
